This week’s photo is the end of a game of Hive. I picked up the game this week after playing it online for a while. It’s a nice quick game, where you place your pieces and move them according to the rules for each type. The goal is to completely surround the opponent’s queen bee, as the black player as done in the photo.

This week’s photo was taken last Saturday (it was after I decided on my photo for last week, so it’s not cheating) at Magnet Lounge in San Francisco. We were there as part of a fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity San Francisco. I have an album of 15 shots from the night (mostly party shots, nothing really photographic) but I really liked this one where I zoomed in on the hands & shot glasses and left everybody’s faces out of the picture. (Well, almost everybody–there’s a face in the background but it’s beyond the depth of field, not illuminated by my flash and doesn’t count)

This week’s photo is of the end of a game of Carassonne I played tonight. I played the Hunters & Gatherers spin-off game a few times at Brian & Lori’s before, and when I wanted to pick up a board game to play it came to mind. I bought the game a little while ago, and have also gotten most of the expansions for it–everything except for Princess & Dragon and Die Katharer (which is only available in German).

You can see the river running through the map, some towers, and a lot of meeple ready to leap into fields for the final scoring. If it means anything, I was nowhere near winning.
