New Site Launch

Wednesday, February 13th, 2008

As of tonight, I’ve launched another blog–given that I don’t update this one often enough, having two can only make the problem better, right? The new blog is a photo blog, called ‘GKH Photography’ and is located at gkhphoto.com. The idea is that all my photography will happen there, leaving this site for mostly words about stuff (there may be a photo or two included with a post every now and then, but they will be […]

Christmas Tree

Monday, December 17th, 2007

Here’s a quick photo of the Christmas tree I have in my apartment this year. It’s also the first real use of my cross-screen filter (for the little star bursts around the lights).

Just a random image to keep this page from becoming too stagnant.

In the Dark

Monday, November 19th, 2007

Here is a photo I took late last night that I wanted to share. It’s the living room in my apartment lit only by standby LEDs, power LEDs, and my persistence of vision clock. When I took the photo, all you could see with the naked eye were the lights, but given that this was a 4 minute exposure, the camera captured enough light to see the whole room.

Peggy’s Cove

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007

I spent this last weekend in Nova Scotia, as I was standing at a friend’s wedding. I did get a chance to take a few photos at Peggy’s Cove (which was less than a half hour away from where I was staying). One of these photos is below, and the rest are in an album here.

Photo of the Week #29

Sunday, May 13th, 2007

This week’s photo is a night shot of Ghirardelli Square. I also created an album for miscellaneous California scenic photos, where you can find a bunch of the other pictures I took while Brian & Lori were visiting (it will potentially grow from that over time, as I go out and take more).

New Lenses

Lenses

When I got back from my recent (and unplanned) trip back to Newfoundland, I had two new camera lenses waiting for me. A wide-angle (Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM) and a telephoto (Canon EF 55-200mm f/4.5-5.6 II USM). To the right is a photo of the two new lenses and my 50mm (Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 Mk II), the 10-22mm is huge compared to the rest of my gear (admittedly […]

2007 Goals

Monday, January 1st, 2007

These are not quite resolutions, but a short list of my (personal, not professional) goals for this year. I’ve never been in to the whole ‘make resolutions and change your life on the first of January’ thing. Maybe it’s because I’m not really that long out of school, and the start of the school year always seemed like a more logical place trace in some vices for virtues. So these are goals, they’re fuzzier than resolutions and if I get […]

Geotagging My Photos

Sunday, December 17th, 2006
Sony GPS-CS1

Here is my latest pre-Christmas toy–a Sony GPS-CS1. It’s essentially a GPS data logger, it’s only display is three LEDs. When it’s on (and has a signal) it takes a GPS reading every 15 seconds and records it to a file. The purpose of the device is to geotag photos (Sony says the device is to be used with CyberShot cameras, but it’ll work with any digital camera). The device […]

Photo of the Week #2

Sunday, November 5th, 2006

Today I took the “Outdoor Sculpture Walk” around Stanford campus, taking pictures as we went along. I got a couple of decent shots, but none of them were of sculptures. My pick for this week is a high-speed shot of a fountain (to freeze the drops of water) with a student reading a book in front. I think it came out pretty well.

As a note, this picture was cropped and […]
