Sonoma Valley

Two weeks ago, a group of people from work went up to Sonoma Valley for the day to do some wine tasting. In addition to tasting over a dozen wines, I thought this was a good chance to take a few more pictures. I tried a few using a polarizer this time around, forgetting that they can give some odd effects at wide angles. Nevertheless, I got a few (what I […]

Photo of the Week #1

Sunday, October 29th, 2006

It’s been suggested to me that I try to do the ‘Photo-A-Day’ thing, since I got a fancy new camera, etc. Well, I’m not going to. Trying to do it daily would be difficult for me, given that most days I’m either at work, at home, or traveling in-between (and taking a lot of pictures at work is not a good idea). I’ve decided to compromise on the project though, and try to take and post a photo […]

Moon Over Golden Gate Bridge

I recently bought myself a digital camera, a Canon Digital Rebel XTi (called the EOS 400D outside North America, except in Japan where it’s the Kiss Digital X). It’s a 10.1 MP digital SLR, that can shoot 3 frames per second. I wanted to learn photography for a while, so I finally broke down and made the big purchase. I’ve been reading a few photography sites online (mostly […]

Last night I attended my first (hopefully of many) concert in the Bay Area–Counting Crows & the Goo Goo Dolls at the Shoreline Amphitheatre. It was a good show. The Goo Goo Dolls were better than I had expected, and I had wanted to see Counting Crows for quite some time; now I have an actual live performance committed to memory to go with the six other live shows I have on CD […]

Gallery Lightboxed

Monday, April 10th, 2006

If you’re into fancy web tricks/layouts/etc. and you haven’t already, check out Lightbox JS v2.0. It’s a neat little script that lets you link to images and have them display on top of your current page, without having to navigate away.

I’ve been meaning to try to integrate it into my photo gallery for some time now, and finally sat down and did it this evening. So, if you try to browse through my gallery now, and click on […]

I Have Returned

I have returned from my wonderful trip to California. It comes highly recommended, provided that you don’t mind the long flights.

While in the area I was able to catch up with Naeim for a day, check out some of the places of note in geek history (i.e. Xerox PARC), and spend a day in San Francisco.

I’m currently in the process of getting my photos ready for print, but they will most likely be put on […]

Fall Photo

Sunday, October 31st, 2004

I couldn’t think of anything interesting to write about this week, but then it hit me… “a picture’s worth a thousand words”, right?

So, here’s a photo I took this afternoon. (Slight imperfections repaired using the Gimp)

Fall Photo

Maybe at some point I’ll put some sort of photo gallery on here for sharing pictures…

Digital Photography with the Gimp

Sunday, October 24th, 2004

Just a quick update to let you all know that I’ve posted my notes & links for my ‘Digital Photograpy with the Gimp’ talk. It’s accessible from my presentations page, and the SLUG page should now link to it.
Have fun, & happy Gimping.
